ABOUT the artist

Doug Jacobson is a talented artist whose love of abstract modernism painting is evident in every piece he creates. His works are characterized by their bold use of color, abstract forms, and dynamic compositions, which reflect his deep understanding of the principles of modernism and his passion for pushing the boundaries of traditional painting. From a young age, Doug has been drawn to the works of abstract modernist painters, he has spent countless hours studying techniques and experimenting with his own style.

 

Doug earned his professional degree in Painting and Print Making from Southwest Texas State University now known as Texas State. He had his first professional show in 1981 at the DuBose Gallery in Houston Texas. He has shown professionally in Austin TX, San Antonio TX and Los Angeles CA throughout his career as well as being placed in many private collections.

 

With ever a discerning eye, Doug is also an accomplished photographer. From 2003 through 2012 he co-founded and served as creative director and photographer for CityPages Magazine in San Antonio TX. Aside from his numerous fashion spreads, Doug photographed notable personalities and celebrities such as Emmy Award winning Lu Parker, and fashion icons for editorial features- Dana Buchman, Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera, Elie Saab, Clinton Kelly, Jhane Barnes and Diane Von Furstenberg just to name a few. His vast photographic collection for the magazine was featured as a limited run pop-up show at The Blue Star Contemporary.

 

Doug has also served as contributing photographer to the late Stephen MacMillan Moser of the Austin Chronical as well as exclusive coverage contributor to the International HELLO magazine for the issue covering Jeanette Jaffe Longoria’s Jet Set birthday bash.

 

Today, Doug’s paintings are celebrated for their unique blend of innovation and tradition, which capture the essence of modernism while remaining true to his own artistic vision. For Doug, painting is not just a profession, but a way of life, a way to express his deepest thoughts and feelings and to connect with the world around him.
